✵ Which sports are the most popular in Great Britain and in Ukraine?
The British are a sporting nation. They are fond of different sports. Thousands of people watch football, rugby and tennis competitions on TY and go to the stadiums. However, the British prefer to go swimming and running. Ukrainian people are fond of sports too. The most popular sports in Ukraine are football, hockey and track and field athletics. A lot of people also like watching figure skating and gymnastics competitions.

What kinds of sport do you know?
Ex.2, p.92 - match the pictures with the words on page 93.
Do ex.2, p.93 (усно) - name sports in each group below without looking back at the previous page.
Do ex.3, p.93 (письмово) - group up the sports into 3 columns. Mind the verbs you use with each sport:
! В англійській мові є три дієслова, які ми можемо вживати з конкретними видами спорту: do, go і play.
Do вживається з заняттями-розвагами та некомандними видами спорту, в яких не використовується м’яч (наприклад, фізичні вправи, бойові мистецтва): do athletics, do judo, do yoga, do taekwondo, do ballet, do karate.
Go вживається з заняттями та видами спорту, які закінчуються на –ing: go swimming, go surfing, go skating, go dancing, go jogging.
ВИНЯТКИ:
Є види спорту, які закінчуються на –ing, проте вони не вживаються з go: boxing, fencing, weight lifting, body-building. Ми вживаємо з цими видами спорту do.
Play вживається з командними видами спорту та видами спорту, які грають з м’ячем чи іншим схожим предметом (шайбою, диском, воланом), а також з тими заняттями, в яких двоє людей чи команди змагаються одна проти одної: play football, play tennis, play chess, play baseball, play volleyball, play cricket, play board games.
Запиши нові слова у словник, вивчи їх (стор.96):

a mascot - символ
a spirit - дух
a wheelchair - інвалідний візок
to compete - змагатися
to light - запалити (мин. lit)
to represent - представляти
to take place - проходити/відбуватися (у певному місці)
